As the New Year begins, I wanted to reflect on one of my favorite scenes. This painting is a composite of a number of reference photographs.
In the early morning before the sun burns the haze from the horizon and the lavender from the sand, the dunes and sea oats stand dark against the reflections on the water. The shadows lie in deep blues and purple against the warm greens and browns of the grass.
I painted this on self-sanded cold press Arches paper because the texture of the paper comes through and adds “sparkle” to the image.
